About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Consult with historic building owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and federal, state, and local regulators
- Facilitate completion of the Historic Preservation Certification process
- Advise on the availability of federal and other jurisdictional tax credits
- Provide technical preservation expertise to building owners
- Create documentation and provide expert advice throughout the process
- Act as a client-facing partner with key regulators
- Serve as an increased public-facing representative of Ryan
- Work with project design teams to approve work meeting preservation standards
- Oversee completion of regulatory filings and amendments
- Review compliance with state and federal regulations to ensure projects meet SOI Standards
- Supervise Consultants and may lead a project team
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with strong writing and research capabilities (in History, Architectural History, Historical Preservation or equivalent preferred)
- Minimum four years’ experience with historic tax credit application projects
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally, and write persuasive technical arguments
- Work experience in comparable federal, state, or local preservation programs is preferred
- Strong organizational skills and initiative working in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment
- Keen attention to detail
- Ability to conduct research both online and in archives
- Ability to multi-task and work independently in a deadline-driven and fast-paced environment
- Technical proficiency in Creative Cloud suite (especially InDesign) to layup photos, create maps, and photo keys
- Valid driver’s license required
- Ability to read and comprehend architectural plans as they pertain to the historic preservation process
- Willingness/ability to travel independently 30 to 50%
