About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Consult with historic building owners, architects, engineers, contractors, and federal, state, and local regulators to facilitate Historic Preservation Certification
  • Advise on the availability of federal and other jurisdictional tax credits
  • Provide technical preservation expertise to assist building owners through the historic preservation process
  • Create documentation and provide expert advice throughout the process
  • Serve as an increased public-facing representative of Ryan
  • Work with project design teams to approve work necessary to meet preservation standards
  • Oversee regulatory filings and amendments
  • Review compliance with state and federal regulations against SOI Standards
  • Supervise Consultants
  • May lead a project team
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with strong writing and research capabilities (in History, Architectural History, Historical Preservation or equivalent preferred)
  • Minimum four years’ experience with historic tax credit application projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally, and write persuasive technical arguments
  • Work experience in comparable federal, state, or local preservation programs is preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and initiative working in a fast-paced, time sensitive environment
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to conduct research both online and in archives
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently in a deadline-driven and fast-paced environment
  • Technical proficiency in Creative Cloud suite (especially InDesign) to layup photos, create maps, and photo keys
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Independent travel requirement: 30 to 50%
