About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist clients in identifying and claiming SR&ED tax credits
- Assist the SR&ED Director in defending credits during CRA reviews
- Research tax law, document expense treatment, and complete detailed models and calculations
- Spend time onsite at client facilities as required
- Provide leadership, guidance, coaching, and mentoring to Managers and Consultants
- Perform strategic planning, operational oversight, staff administration, and performance evaluation
- Interview clients to identify eligible SR&ED projects and information required for T661 filings
- Prepare or supervise technical narratives for SR&ED tax credit claims
- Identify employees, subcontractors, and materials connected to eligible activities and determine related effort
- Advise and support clients before and during CRA technical reviews
- Respond to CRA correspondence regarding technology aspects of SR&ED claims
- Gather samples of client supporting documents
- Collaborate with technical advisors to develop SR&ED claim preparation tools
- Track time by client and activity codes and analyze engagement-level economics
- Forecast future claims and allocate work to team members
- Research SR&ED tax court cases and develop training sessions
- Support client presentations for proposals, planning strategies, and ideas
- Maintain and attract clients in various fields
- Present on SR&ED at client training, internal meetings, and industry events
- Develop relationships with CRA auditors
- Maintain the firm’s SR&ED tax law knowledge base
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master's or PhD degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical or related disciplines) or Science (Chemistry, Physics, or related disciplines)
- Related industry experience
- Minimum six years of SR&ED tax credit experience
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Strong communication skills
- Willingness to learn and be a team player
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research
- Valid driver’s license required
