About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own and evolve the design system powering Ryan’s suite of digital tax products
- Set and maintain standards for how components are built, named, documented, and used
- Educate and support designers on design system usage
- Identify system gaps, inconsistencies, and debt, prioritizing high-impact improvements
- Collaborate with Engineering to translate design system components accurately into code
- Partner with product designers to incorporate real-world feedback into component and pattern evolution
- Engage with Product and Visual Design to align new patterns with product needs and visual standards
- Participate in design system governance
- Design, build, and maintain a reusable Figma component library
- Own token and variable architecture in Figma and synchronize it with engineering code
- Write and maintain practical documentation for components and patterns
- Build accessibility into the system using WCAG, ARIA, contrast ratios, and related practices
- Work primarily on computer-based tasks with regular collaboration across teams, clients, and vendors
- May delegate tasks to junior team members; no direct supervisory responsibilities
Requirements
What you’ll need- All candidates must include a digital portfolio or link in their application.
- 5–8 years of product/UX design experience, with meaningful time spent owning or significantly contributing to an enterprise-level design system used by multiple products
- Proven track record of building, maintaining, and scaling component libraries adopted and trusted by product teams
- Financial, enterprise, or B2B background is a plus
- Demonstrated ability with AI tools and processes that accelerate design and research, such as Claude, Figma Make, and Lovable
- Portfolio or work samples demonstrating design system thinking and execution
- Deep Figma expertise in variables, tokens, component properties, auto-layout, and library management
- Solid understanding of how design systems translate into code
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and component-based frameworks such as React is a meaningful plus
- Detail-obsessed approach to naming conventions, component states, edge cases, and consistency
- Systems thinking and ability to assess how component decisions affect an entire product suite
- Ability to work at the intersection of design and engineering
- Occasional travel of up to 10% may be required
