About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support power system studies and consulting services for transmission and/or distribution projects
  • Assist with power system protection, system planning, interconnection, DER integration, and microgrid analyses
  • Prepare, organize, and maintain engineering reports, calculations, study results, and project documentation
  • Apply engineering principles to support analysis and resolve technical issues using established tools and methods
  • Complete assigned technical tasks to support project schedules, quality expectations, and deliverables
  • Review assigned work products for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with engineering standards
  • Collaborate with project teams and incorporate guidance from experienced engineers
  • Support data collection, model setup, simulations, and report preparation
  • Communicate project status and assigned-task progress to team members and supervisors
  • Participate in internal meetings and limited customer interactions under supervision
  • Coordinate with internal teams to obtain project information and resolve data gaps
  • Develop technical competency and consulting skills through training, mentoring, self-development, and project experience
  • Follow company policies, procedures, and safety requirements
  • Attend in-person or virtual meetings as required
  • Work indoors in an office or home-office environment and occasionally in manufacturing or jobsite environments

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 0–2 years of power engineering experience or relevant internship/co-op experience in power system studies for transmission and/or distribution systems
  • Basic understanding of electric power systems
  • Ability to apply engineering fundamentals to support analysis and assist in evaluating study results
  • Exposure to technical documentation, including reports, calculations, and presentations
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and willingness to learn
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn and develop technical skills
  • Functional literacy with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to travel as required
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or another engineering degree with related relevant experience
  • Coursework or limited experience with power flow, short circuit, overcurrent coordination, arc flash, dynamic stability, and/or electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies (preferred)
  • Exposure to power system modeling and analytical tools such as PSS®E, PSLF, PSCAD, SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, CYME, ASPEN, and PowerFactory (preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of transmission planning, generation interconnection, or compliance studies (preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of power system protection, DER interconnection, or compliance studies (preferred)
  • Familiarity with programming or scripting tools such as Python (preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (preferred)
  • Knowledge of MathCAD for engineering calculations (preferred)
  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred)
  • FE examination completed or progress toward EIT certification (preferred)
  • Ability to travel up to 10%, including overnight and international travel
  • Ability to work extended hours when necessary
  • Ability to perform the physical and environmental demands of the role
