About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Conduct day-to-day data center operations
- Travel to contracted client areas and data center locations
- Install racks and equipment enclosures
- Prepare equipment for installation
- Update cable management systems as the data center cable plant changes
- Update asset management systems as equipment is added or removed
- Execute project tasks and work with teams to meet timelines
- Communicate project status to teams and stakeholders
- Provide capacity-planning information for space, power, data communications, and cooling
- Manage vendor resources according to statements of work
- Coordinate equipment delivery and shipping
- Access, install, remove, and test copper and fiber-optic cable from the point of demarcation to data center whitespace
- Perform whitespace cable installation
- Terminate copper and fiber cabling
- Perform moves, adds, and changes; install panels; manage patch cords; install cabinets; and make proper device connections
- Perform inside/outside plant installation according to required TIA standards
- Police computer rooms, maintain cleanliness, and prevent cardboard storage
- Report hazards and safety violations
- Work primarily 12-hour shifts, 3–4 days per week, with potential 24/7 availability
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience in data centers and co-location environments managing hardware assets
- Willingness to travel for long periods of time
- Demonstrable project management experience and ability to manage tasks under tight deadlines
- Experience with servers, storage, and network equipment from different vendors
- Experience contributing to detailed project plans involving cross-functional teams and challenging requirements
- Ability to coordinate issue resolution across departmental teams
- Experience coordinating vendors
- Experience with asset management systems
- Experience managing inventory of cable, power cords, and other infrastructure items
- Ability to understand drawings, plans, and specifications
- Ability to follow instructions and complete projects timely and qualitatively
- Microsoft Excel spreadsheet competency
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects
- Strong methodology, processes, and metrics orientation
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Ability to lift at least 50–70 lbs. regularly and use server lifts or pallet jacks
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach
- Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergencies
- Ability to move quickly and efficiently in varied work environments
- Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity
- Clear vision, with or without correction, while wearing safety glasses
- Ability to differentiate color-coded warning signs, labels, and cables
- Ability to work across varied indoor temperatures
- Ability to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, rain, or snow
- Ability to work in elevated noise levels while wearing hearing protection
- Valid driver's license for work-related travel, as required
