About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Complete tasks directed by the Data Center Manager and report conditions affecting building services, tenant comfort, or safety
- Operate, maintain, and modify critical-environment building systems
- Perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, CRACs, chillers, plumbing, UPS, DC battery systems, PDUs, generators, transfer switches, switchgear, cabling, fire detection and suppression, life safety, lighting, temperature controls, building management systems, and digital systems
- Complete planned and ad-hoc preventive maintenance assignments across engineering, mechanical, and maintenance trades
- Conduct periodic building-systems inspections and maintain clean, safe mechanical equipment rooms
- Respond to, investigate, and manage indoor emergencies and air-quality complaints
- Create, close, and track work requests and work orders
- Monitor service contractors, note deficiencies, and recommend changes
- Deliver colocation, telecommunications, and additional data center services
- Act as a focal point for customers, vendors, and carriers regarding colocation, connectivity, and network services
- Support internal networks, IT infrastructure, computers, electronics, and telephone systems
- Install IT and network hardware, run or make patch cables, and verify or test cable paths
- Coordinate and oversee third-party access and work involving structured cabling, circuit delivery, and equipment installations
- Support offsite points of presence and assist with operations, administration, and maintenance of infrastructure and network equipment
- Perform other related duties assigned by management
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Superior observation and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment up to 40 lbs
- Ability to climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach for equipment-related tasks
- Basic physical fitness to respond quickly to emergencies
- Ability to move quickly and efficiently through work environments
- Good hand-eye coordination and dexterity
- Clear vision, with or without correction, while wearing safety glasses
- Ability to differentiate between color-coded warning signs, labels, and cables
- Ability to work across a wide range of indoor temperatures
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather, including extreme temperatures, rain, or snow
- Ability to work in elevated noise levels while wearing hearing protection
