Unit Process Design Engineer – Water and Wastewater
SANEARES. Develop water and wastewater unit process designs (water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, lift stations, reservoirs, and pump stations), from concept through detailed design .
About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop water and wastewater unit process designs (water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, lift stations, reservoirs, and pump stations), from concept through detailed design
- Perform hydraulic sizing of suction and discharge lines, head loss calculations, and selection of pumps, valves, and accessories
- Prepare calculation reports, technical specifications, design criteria, bills of materials/equipment, and technical documentation
- Define unit arrangements, layouts, and interconnections, considering operation, maintenance, and safety
- Ensure coordination with related disciplines, including civil/structural, electrical, instrumentation and automation, and process engineering
- Support budgeting and procurement by providing technical definitions for quotations, bid evaluations, and requisitions
- Lead and participate in in-person technical meetings with clients, internal teams, and suppliers
- Conduct technical site visits to plants, construction sites, and/or operating facilities to collect data and validate assumptions
- Clarify technical questions during construction/implementation and support project adjustments
Requirements
What you’ll need- Degree in Engineering (preferably Civil, Sanitary/Environmental, or a related field)
- Practical experience with water and wastewater unit process design (water treatment plants and wastewater treatment plants)
- Strong command of hydraulic sizing and design criteria, including head losses, equipment selection, and internal piping networks/interconnections
- Experience preparing and validating calculation reports, specifications, and engineering documentation
- Availability for technical site visits and participation in in-person meetings, as required by the project
- Technical autonomy, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage interfaces
- Preferred: experience with the implementation, expansion, or retrofit of water and wastewater treatment plants
- Preferred: experience interfacing with construction and operations teams, applying engineering principles in field conditions
- Preferred: experience with multidisciplinary review and coordination
- Preferred: familiarity with the technical standards of utilities, industrial companies, or regulatory agencies, when applicable
- Analytical and disciplined approach, with attention to design criteria, traceability, and the quality of calculations and deliverables
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple interfaces
- Clear technical communication in meetings and discussions with clients and teams
- Proactive approach to anticipating risks and proposing feasible solutions
