About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provides clinical and technical consultation in laboratory methods, instrumentation, quality control, test selection, and interpretation of laboratory testing
  • Maintains relationships with medical staff and health care professionals to provide laboratory information
  • Acts as a liaison between the clinical laboratory and clinicians
  • Serves as a consultant to clinical providers for education and interpretation of laboratory test results
  • Collaborates with healthcare system, public health, and/or industry partners to improve clinical laboratory services
  • Attends national and international conferences to maintain expertise and updated credentialing
  • Provides expertise on appropriate laboratory and institutional committees
  • Supports the community role of the institution and influences national regulations and/or guidelines
  • May serve as a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Laboratory Director

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Doctorate degree (PhD) in a specific clinical laboratory discipline is required
  • One year experience or fellowship training required
  • Certification as a diplomat of specific laboratory discipline required
  • If incumbent does not have certification, must obtain within five years from date of hire into position
  • If performing testing and working in the state of North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice
  • Other credentials may be required depending upon accrediting agency
