About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assess clients/patients/residents and design occupational therapy treatments
  • Conduct evaluations and provide interventions for functional, cognitive, or behavioral impairments
  • Evaluate physical, cognitive, developmental, and psychosocial abilities
  • Develop therapy goals and administer occupational therapy programs
  • Document evaluation information and establish or modify therapeutic plans
  • Educate clients/patients/residents to improve understanding and functional outcomes
  • Apply age-related treatments and evaluations
  • Incorporate current research into daily treatment
  • Provide care across post-acute, long-term care, and home health environments as applicable
  • Maintain documentation and meet regulatory requirements
  • Follow professional clinical practice guidelines
  • Participate in department, Good Samaritan Society, and Sanford Health activities
  • Interact with providers, case managers, family members, third-party payers, and public organizations
  • Supervise assistants, aides, and students as requested
  • Provide ongoing education and training to peers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Appropriate education level required in accordance with state licensure
  • Must be licensed in the state(s) of practice as Occupational Therapist
  • NBCOT certification preferred for Sanford Health facilities and not required for Good Samaritan Society facilities
  • Valid driver's license may be required when applicable
  • Required department-specific competencies and certifications must be obtained and maintained
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or obtained within the first 60 days of employment
  • New graduates in South Dakota and Iowa testing with the board may be considered with a temporary license
