About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Review prescriptions and provider orders for accuracy and suitability
  • Dispense prescription and non-prescription medications in retail/community pharmacy settings
  • Provide information and advice on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, administration, and storage
  • Respond to prescription issues and advise providers on medication selection and dosage
  • Counsel patients and monitor their response to drug therapy
  • Perform unit dose dispensing, IV admixtures, outpatient prescriptions, compounding, and work with automated dispensing devices as applicable
  • Navigate electronic medical records and provide pharmaceutical care
  • Follow regulations and standards governing pharmacy practice
  • Act as a shift supervisor when required
  • Provide oversight and clinical supervision for pharmacy services and support personnel
  • Participate in clinical functions including patient interaction, interdisciplinary rounds, chart reviews, medication reconciliation, medication checking and dispensing, and IV room oversight

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy
  • Thorough knowledge of drugs and their actions
  • Knowledge of state and local regulations
  • License in good standing by the State Board of Pharmacy in state(s) of practice and/or multi-state licensure privileges as required by position
  • Hospital experience or residency preferred for medical center or institutional settings
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to learn and utilize new technology as the profession of pharmacy evolves
  • Ability to provide age-appropriate pharmaceutical care to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
