About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Review, interpret, and dispense prescription and non-prescription medications
  • Review provider orders and provide drug information and pharmaceutical care
  • Respond to prescription issues and advise providers on medication selection, dosage, interactions, and side effects
  • Counsel patients on medication administration, side effects, expected response, storage, and related questions
  • Monitor patient health and progress in response to drug therapy
  • Perform duties including unit dose dispensing, IV admixtures, outpatient prescriptions, electronic medical record navigation, compounding, and automated dispensing devices
  • Assess pharmaceutical needs across neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
  • Follow regulations and standards governing pharmacy practice
  • Provide oversight and clinical supervision for pharmacy services and support personnel
  • Act as a shift supervisor when required
  • Support pharmacy services including acute care surgery, neurology, cardiology, pediatrics, oncology, infusion services, intensive care, general medicine, dialysis, transplant, antimicrobial stewardship, and medication reconciliation
  • Perform decentralized clinical functions including patient interaction, interdisciplinary team rounding, chart reviews, counseling, and medication-list collection
  • Perform centralized clinical functions including medication checking and dispensing and oversight of IV-room clinical functions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy
  • Thorough knowledge of drugs and their actions
  • Knowledge of state and local regulations
  • License in good standing by the State Board of Pharmacy in state(s) of practice and/or multi-state licensure privileges as required by position
  • Hospital experience or residency preferred for medical center or institutional settings
  • Ability to learn and utilize new technology as the profession of pharmacy evolves
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
