About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Administers speech and language evaluations, tests, and examinations to diagnose and plan treatments
- Assesses speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing problems and develops individualized treatment plans
- Provides speech and language services and adjusts treatments based on disease progression
- Instructs clients/patients/residents in therapeutic speech and language exercises
- Provides consultation throughout speech and language treatment processes
- Ensures compliance with speech and language standards, policies, protocols, and quality requirements
- Documents treatment in accordance with departmental guidelines and regulatory requirements
- Treats individuals of all ages with varying diagnoses and disorders
- Follows accepted clinical practice guidelines of professional organizations
- Participates in department, Good Samaritan Society, and Sanford Health promotional activities
- Collaborates with providers, case managers, third-party payers, and public organizations
- May supervise assistants, aides, and students
- Provides ongoing education and training to peers in areas of expertise
- Performs other related duties as requested by the manager
- May focus on post-acute, long-term care, and home health care environments
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must be licensed in the state(s) of practice as a Speech and Language Pathologist
- Appropriate education level required in accordance with state licensure
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or within the first 60 days of employment
- Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications
- When applicable, may require valid driver's license
- Certificate of Clinical Competence issued by ASHA or current Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) when working at a Sanford Health Facility (not required but preferred by GSS Facilities)
