About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Analyze and optimize day-to-day logistics operations
  • Ensure processes, technology, and infrastructure support efficient and cost-effective distribution
  • Develop business cases evaluating transportation routes, modes, rates, warehouse and transportation operations, and distribution requirements planning
  • Build relationships with customers and logistics service providers
  • Troubleshoot operational issues to ensure timely and cost-effective customer delivery
  • Collaborate across organizational boundaries with sales personnel and customers to understand business needs
  • Establish innovative programs serving customer and Sappi interests
  • Work with procurement services to evaluate and purchase logistics services
  • Collaborate with legal and financial staff to ensure compliance
  • Ensure accuracy and quality of material flow through distribution channels and physical inventory
  • Ensure standard practices are employed
  • Ensure compliance with import and export customs requirements and regulations
  • Assess current logistics and transportation processes using project management and problem-solving skills
  • Determine improvements, evaluate costs, and coordinate institutionalized change
  • Investigate and implement new technologies and information systems
  • Analyze logistics networks to optimize delivery times and delivery costs
  • Analyze vendor proposals, pricing structures, and performance criteria; make recommendations and assist with buying logistics services
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and performance standards

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Logistics, Business Studies, or equivalent job-related experience
  • Advanced degree or Supply Chain certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 to 7 years experience preferred with proven leadership skills
  • Knowledge of computer-based design and analysis tools, including route optimization, simulation, work measurement, spreadsheet, and database analysis
  • Strong background in engineering, math, analytics, and visualization or optimization techniques
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, self-sufficient and self-directed
  • Capable of building strong relationships across organizational boundaries
  • Familiar with logistics contracts and tariffs, warehousing, and inventory management
  • Familiarity with international logistics operations and trade compliance
  • Advanced knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning, Manufacturing Execution, and Microsoft 365
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Some travel may be required
