About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Process payroll changes and edit time for hourly and non-exempt employees, including straight time, overtime, and holiday pay.
  • Interact with Corporate and Site HR, site Payroll departments, external parties, agencies, employees, and supervisors.
  • Evaluate pay discrepancies, process adjustments, and determine whether to cancel or reissue paychecks or direct deposits.
  • Prepare corrections to earnings figures and explain pay standards to employees.
  • Prepare and distribute routine payroll reports.
  • Process weekly and monthly union dues payments and reconciliations.
  • Process weekly railroad tax payments and garnishment reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and provincial payroll regulations, wage and hour requirements, tax withholding requirements, and company policies.
  • Perform payroll audits and reconciliations of employee data, earnings, deductions, taxes, and time records.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll and accounts payable processes, increase efficiency, and strengthen internal controls.
  • Update vendor master data and assist with auditing Concur expense reports and other Accounts Payable administrative tasks.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience within the payroll function; preferably a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a union environment and experience with 2500+ employee payroll is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Fundamental Payroll Certification a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to perform in a high-demand, time-sensitive and confidential environment.
  • Possesses strong problem-solving skills and basic accounting skills.
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience with ADP Enterprise a plus.
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to effectively use Microsoft Office required; experience with SAP is desired.
