About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Plan, organize, review, and manage engineering work products and deliverables for EPC project directors, construction teams, and clients
- Facilitate all engineering and design efforts performed by the engineering project team or subcontracted third-party engineering firms
- Define project objectives and oversee engineering quality control throughout the project lifecycle
- Direct project scope development and engineering budgeting/cost control
- Develop project execution plans, schedules, and communications documents
- Facilitate flexibility in engineering and design to maintain project schedules and expedite engineering and procurement deliverables
- Coordinate team members and report to clients and senior management
- Make timely critical decisions to mitigate project risk
- Interface between engineering and construction teams and facilitate closure of RFIs
- Manage third-party equipment vendors, fabricators, subcontractors, and specialty engineering subcontractors
- Negotiate procurement and subcontract deliverables to meet project schedules and budgets
- Implement structured engineering design processes and performance metrics
- Manage scope changes affecting cost and schedule
- Apply industry best practices to accelerate design-related tasks
- Identify and provide missing design data, vendor drawings, and client decisions to minimize rework
- Ensure proper project documentation is distributed to relevant functional groups
- Liaise with client project engineers/managers and internal purchasing, project controls, and construction groups
- Request appropriate staff allocations within budget constraints
- Monitor project status and pursue corrective action for schedules, budgets, priorities, staffing, and work quality
- Manage or facilitate pre-commissioning and commissioning services as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline such as mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, architectural, or chemical engineering
- Primary base location in either Odessa, TX or Houston, TX
- Minimum of 5 years of engineering project management, project engineering, or related technical leadership experience
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing design deliverables in a fast-paced, construction-driven environment
- Working knowledge of mission critical systems such as electrical distribution, backup power, mechanical cooling, controls, fire protection, security, redundancy, and commissioning is preferred
- Strong understanding of engineering deliverable development, design reviews, constructability, procurement support, RFIs, change management, and project controls
- Strong people leadership, communication, facilitation, and client-facing skills
- Ability to serve as the primary engineering liaison with clients, project leadership, construction teams, vendors, and subcontractors
- Ability to travel to client offices, project job sites, vendor facilities, and construction locations as needed
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and other project management, document control, or collaboration tools
- Ability to read and interpret project drawings, specifications, P&IDs where applicable, single-line diagrams, equipment data, and technical documentation
- Impeccable personal and professional ethics with a demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, accountability, and client service
- Professional Engineer licensure in Texas or the ability to obtain licensure is preferred
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to walk the property and laydown yards
- Ability to carry up to 50 pounds
