About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, implement, and defend complex fate and transport models evaluating natural and engineered barriers to contaminant transport
  • Develop defensible conceptual and mathematical models of natural and engineered barriers and related fate and transport of hazardous chemicals and radionuclides
  • Create, document, and maintain environmental flow and transport models
  • Prepare technical reports documenting models
  • Check and review work performed by peers
  • Collaborate with colleagues throughout the DOE Complex
  • Interface with regulatory stakeholders, facility engineering and operations, and Department of Energy customers
  • Support technical matters involving the DOE Low-Level Waste Disposal Facility Federal Review Group, NRC, SCDES, and EPA
  • Contribute to project and organizational objectives demonstrating long-term compliance of disposal and closure actions
  • Support regulatory documentation for radioactive waste management projects at the Savannah River Site
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geosciences, Computer Science, or other related field from an accredited university or college
  • Preferred: Master’s with 3yrs+ experience; or a Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Geoscience, Computer Science, or other related field from an accredited university or college
  • Experience in flow and contaminant transport modeling calculations, specifically PORFLOW, GoldSim, COMSOL, PFLOTRAN, MODFLOW 6, or MOOSE
  • Experience with quantitative coding using Python, R, C++, and Fortran
  • Experience with sensitivity analysis and uncertainty analysis
  • Experience with geochemical modeling software, such as PHREEQC and Geochemist’s Workbench
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present to audiences with varied degrees of subject matter knowledge
  • Ability to work a 4/10s schedule, Monday–Thursday
  • No security clearance required
