About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Identify, qualify, and research prospective and existing donors for major and principal gift opportunities
  • Analyze biographical, philanthropic, financial, corporate, and relationship information
  • Assess donor capacity, affinity, interests, and organizational fit
  • Develop research profiles, briefings, and recommendations for fundraisers
  • Support portfolio and pipeline development and prospect prioritization
  • Partner with frontline fundraisers on donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies
  • Monitor philanthropic trends and support prospect identification and donor engagement
  • Support research on prospective board members and organizational leadership priorities
  • Analyze donor and prospect data to identify patterns, trends, and fundraising opportunities
  • Maintain accurate prospect research information in the CRM
  • Partner with Advancement Operations, Business Technology, and fundraising teams on data and research initiatives
  • Identify data-quality and process issues and recommend improvements
  • Conduct due diligence on individual, corporate, and foundation donors and partners
  • Review public information for mission alignment, reputational considerations, partnership history, and risks
  • Synthesize findings into objective assessments and escalate complex or sensitive issues
  • Manage assigned research projects and meet agreed timelines
  • Improve research tools, templates, workflows, and documentation
  • Share knowledge and support colleagues on research methods and tools
  • Evaluate research resources and vendors
  • Lead defined projects with limited risk, complexity, and resource requirements

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in prospect research, fundraising research, philanthropic intelligence, development operations, or a related field
  • Ability to independently research and analyze complex information and translate findings into clear, actionable insights
  • Experience producing concise, accurate, and well-organized prospect profiles, research briefings, or strategic research deliverables
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud CRM or a similar constituent relationship management system
  • Ability to analyze philanthropic patterns, trends, and relationships among individuals, corporations, and foundations
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, exercise sound judgment, and meet deadlines in a responsive service environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders at different organizational levels
  • Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Experience using prospect research tools such as LexisNexis, Relationship Science, Wealth-X, or comparable platforms (preferred)
  • Familiarity with financial documents, including SEC filings, and their application in wealth and capacity analysis (preferred)
  • Experience conducting reputational or donor due diligence using publicly available information (preferred)
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and other analytical techniques (preferred)
  • Experience supporting major gift, principal gift, corporate, or foundation fundraising (preferred)
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled research tools and responsible practices for using them in research and analysis (preferred)
