About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build and improve video and audio experiences for users
- Develop services for publishing, playback, monetization, and live streaming
- Work with VOD and LIVE video transcoding and large-scale media processing
- Improve processing, enrichment, and use of video and audio metadata
- Explore AI capabilities such as speech to text and text to speech
- Build reliable solutions for major breaking news and live events
- Work closely with newsrooms and product teams to shape future products
- Contribute across product development and technology operations at scale
- Participate in shaping technical solutions and the evolution of the technology
- Collaborate across disciplines and locations with frontend, backend, fullstack, product, UX, and data teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- Comfortable working with Node.js and TypeScript
- Experience across the full stack is valuable
- Experience or interest in relational databases such as MySQL
- Experience or interest in Redis or Elasticsearch
- Experience or interest in AWS Media Services
- Experience or interest in video technologies such as HLS or FFmpeg
- Experience or interest in infrastructure and Kubernetes
- Experience or interest in AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code or other agentic coding tools
- Familiarity with React and frontend development
- Familiarity with event-driven services using RabbitMQ and SNS/SQS
- Familiarity with GraphQL and REST APIs
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
- Familiarity with AWS and Akamai
- Familiarity with GitHub Actions and continuous delivery
- Understanding of unit testing, continuous integration, and continuous delivery
- Experience with video technology is a plus, not a requirement
