About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, evolve, and implement architectures for distributed, highly available, and scalable systems
  • Work directly on developing solutions using modern Java, Spring Boot, and Quarkus
  • Define and apply event-driven architecture patterns using Apache Kafka
  • Lead technical decisions involving data consistency, concurrency, asynchronous processing, and fault tolerance
  • Design resilient solutions with retries, idempotency, failure recovery, and event processing
  • Participate in development, proof-of-concept initiatives, code reviews, and troubleshooting
  • Define technical standards and support the architectural evolution of services and platforms
  • Evaluate architectural alternatives based on performance, complexity, security, scalability, and operating costs
  • Collaborate with multiple squads, promoting best practices and technical consistency across services
  • Support the identification and resolution of complex issues in production environments
  • Work without direct people-management responsibilities, focusing on technical excellence, architecture, and solving complex problems

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Strong experience with Java 17 or later in production environments
  • Advanced proficiency in Spring Boot and hands-on experience with Quarkus
  • Strong knowledge of the JVM, concurrency, asynchronous processing, and resource management
  • Experience building and evolving REST APIs and microservices
  • Hands-on experience with distributed systems and cloud-native architectures
  • Strong knowledge of event-driven architecture (EDA)
  • Ability to address eventual consistency, concurrency, duplicate messages, and partial failures
  • Experience defining architectural solutions and evaluating technical trade-offs
  • Production experience with Apache Kafka, including partitioning, consumer groups, and consumption strategies
  • Knowledge of event ordering, consumer scalability, retries, backoff, and DLQ/DLT
  • Experience with idempotency, reprocessing, and failure handling in asynchronous workflows
  • Hands-on experience with resilience and consistency patterns such as Saga and Transactional Outbox
  • Knowledge of Change Data Capture (CDC), CQRS, and Event Sourcing
  • Experience with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes in production environments
  • Knowledge of CI/CD and cloud-native application deployment practices
  • Experience with observability and investigating performance and stability issues in production
  • Technical seniority appropriate for the Principal Engineer level
  • Strong hands-on approach and close involvement with code and production issues
  • Autonomy to lead engineering initiatives and provide technical influence across different teams
  • Collaborative mindset, clear communication, systems thinking, and results orientation
