About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support third country audits through preparation, participation in audit activities, and monitoring agreed corrective actions
  • Coordinate input to the annual report against the Multi-Annual National Control Plan
  • Lead projects to review local authority support materials
  • Provide subject matter expertise to support organisational priorities
  • Lead risk management and enforcement advice for food safety incidents
  • Represent Food Standards Scotland at local authority-facing meetings
  • Lead local authority engagement and build and enhance stakeholder relationships
  • Represent Food Standards Scotland at external meetings and presentations
  • Keep up to date with FSS developments and strategic objectives
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at external meetings
  • Support third country assurance matters and technical official control delivery for FSS and local authority colleagues

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Environmental Health Officer or Food Safety Officer with an appropriate qualification recognised by REHIS/EHRB, or suitable equivalent qualification
  • Direct significant experience of regulating the food sector, including formal enforcement
  • In-depth experience of inspecting and auditing in the high-risk food processing and manufacturing sector
  • Comprehensive and practical understanding of legislation and official guidance relating to food law
  • Comprehensive and practical understanding of regulatory systems for delivering official controls
  • Connections and communications – Practitioner level
  • Delivery and decision making at pace – Practitioner level
  • Working Together – Level 3
  • Seeing the Bigger Picture – Level 3
  • Existing and ongoing right to work in the UK
  • Ability to provide a CV and supporting statement of no more than 1500 words
  • Successful completion of BPSS, including identity, right to work, employment history, and unspent criminal record checks
  • Willingness to complete an interview and presentation if invited
  • Proof of qualifications at assessment stage
