About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and line manage the SPPA Infrastructure/Cloud Engineering team
  • Maintain knowledge of best practices in cloud and IT infrastructure management
  • Design, implement and maintain critical cloud services with colleagues, suppliers and managed service providers
  • Manage cloud environments and enable rapid deployments using Terraform Infrastructure as Code
  • Support scripting and software tools, including Python and Microsoft DevOps platforms
  • Design and implement networking, physical infrastructure, COTS software, open-source, virtual and cloud computing solutions
  • Apply information security practices and controls to protect solutions and services
  • Advise and present to IT Change and Architecture Boards
  • Ensure services comply with best practice and architectural principles
  • Own issues through mitigation or resolution, consult specialists, monitor investigations, identify trends and implement preventative measures
  • Participate in an in-person interview and GDD Technical Assessment at the SPPA office in Tweedbank

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must hold a relevant MS Azure qualification, such as Azure DB Administrator, Azure Administrator, Azure Security Engineer, Azure Developer, or Azure Data Engineer, or have demonstrable equivalent industry experience
  • Significant experience designing and implementing scalable infrastructure solutions
  • In-depth knowledge of MS Azure
  • Knowledge of the wider Microsoft product suite and Linux
  • Knowledge of securely integrating MS Azure with other cloud platforms
  • Deep cloud expertise across IaaS, PaaS and SaaS technologies, including IAM, Networking, Storage, Compute and Governance
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code via Terraform
  • Knowledge of Python and Microsoft DevOps platforms beneficial
  • Oracle knowledge or ability to acquire it rapidly advantageous
  • Must complete Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks before appointment
  • Must have existing and ongoing right to work in the UK; Skilled Worker sponsorship is unavailable
  • Ability to meet Leadership, Making effective, Communicating & Influencing, and Managing A Quality Service behaviours at Level 3
  • CV and supporting statement of no more than 750 words required
