About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Establish partnerships with regional independent accounts to achieve sales goals and objectives for all SMG products
  • Develop business plans with each assigned account and ensure their execution to drive growth
  • Negotiate promotions, return on investment for trade funds, logistics efficiency gains, and online customer opportunities
  • Manage territory trade and sales budgets
  • Drive in-store sales in line with the sales and marketing teams’ objectives
  • Develop relationships with key customers and secure additional display space for Scotts brands
  • Manage customers’ monthly forecasts
  • Build strong internal and external relationships
  • Prepare and present business opportunities and implement sales plans with customers, including during quarterly business reviews and line reviews
  • Develop sales strategies based on marketing tactics, product knowledge, and local market conditions
  • Collaborate with distribution network customers to achieve sales and visit objectives
  • Secure pre-book orders from independent garden centers and distributors

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Postsecondary education OR equivalent field sales experience
  • Five (5) years of experience in field sales and merchandising
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with customers and potential partners
  • Ability to negotiate with and persuade others
  • Excellent sales presentation skills and the ability to speak in front of large groups
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English
  • Ability to identify and manage issues to determine appropriate resolutions
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision
  • Effective time management skills, including the ability to manage time and priorities
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends
  • Availability for regular travel throughout the territory, including travel by car or plane and overnight stays
  • Valid driver’s license for the designated territory or territories
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
