  • Develop project budgets, schedules and documentation; monitor budget and timeline performance and adjust plans

  • Identify and vet new project sites using the Fatal Flaw Analysis matrix and Prospector tool
  • Manage contractor relationships, SOW adherence, contractor solicitation and negotiations
  • Review and approve contracts and expenditures; serve as point of contact with counterparties and ensure compliance
  • Coordinate project budget updates and financial model reviews; use economic analyses to guide development
  • Lead complex commercial negotiations and mentor junior staff on negotiations
  • Facilitate transactions and coordinate information flow between companies
  • Engage landowners, community members and community leadership; secure site control agreements and planning/use permit approvals
  • Travel frequently to project sites to assess opportunities and acquire land rights
  • Orchestrate mapping and GIS tools for complex project issues and perform independent analysis
  • Develop and implement permitting and tax strategies, checklists and abatement processes
  • Lead permitting and tax abatement processes through stakeholder engagement
  • Plan and manage environmental, geotechnical, hydrological, cultural, airspace, resource monitoring, transmission, congestion, public sentiment and title studies
  • Ensure compliance with interconnection processes and adjust plans based on timelines and approvals
  • Direct information gathering for system and site design and recommend approaches to leadership
  • Apply advanced understanding of wind, solar and battery storage construction, operations, processes and technologies
  • Collaborate with and influence team members, mentor junior staff and manage internal and external resources
  • Serve as the central point of contact for project aspects including interconnection, real estate, construction, engineering and financial modeling
  • Manage project handoffs to subsequent phases such as Development, Construction and M&A
  • Lead or guide junior staff in strategy analysis and lead projects through Scout’s Tier structure
  • Deliver annual goals and model Scout’s mission and values

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college program
  • 5+ years of wind and/or solar development experience
  • Knowledge of the full-cycle of utility-scale wind and solar power generation development and marketing, with considerable experience leading mid- to late-stage development
  • Extensive knowledge of interconnection process, permitting, real estate, state/federal regulation, utility procurement goals, politics, law and other issues impacting renewable energy project development in U.S. energy markets
  • Strong understanding of U.S. power markets and transmission system
  • Solid understanding of economic drivers for renewable energy projects
  • Ability to frame issues concisely with context, analysis, recommendations and risk/benefit tradeoffs in written, verbal and presentation formats
  • Ability to recognize development opportunities and evaluate risks related to renewable project development
  • Ability to work in a flat organization while leveraging colleagues across reporting lines
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, constantly evolving work environment and industry
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and GIS platforms such as Google Earth and ArcGIS
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Willingness to work out of the Boulder office is preferred but not required
  • Willingness and availability to travel significantly as needed (40%-60%), depending on project stage
