About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide quality health education services to Sea Mar patients
  • Provide in-service education to Sea Mar staff
  • Maintain professional contacts with community groups and organizations to increase service accessibility and availability
  • Maintain contact with community health centers and medical associations to keep information and educational materials current
  • Present education materials emphasizing preventive health care and health maintenance
  • Collaborate with clinic staff, including medical providers
  • Assess health education needs of target populations
  • Provide education and counseling on chronic conditions, reproductive health, family planning, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV/AIDS, pregnancy options, and related topics
  • Design, promote, present, and evaluate community group health sessions
  • Develop collaborative relationships with local health, educational, and social service providers and agencies
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service trainings
  • Complete and submit accurate weekly and/or monthly reports
  • Review and update health education materials and create pamphlets as needed
  • Participate in the Literacy Review process for health education materials
  • May provide blood pressure screening for nursing home residents
  • May develop, maintain, and harvest produce from a community garden for patient distribution
  • Meet productivity goals agreed upon with senior management
  • Work collaboratively with Sea Mar employees, educators, social providers, and community members
  • No supervisory responsibilities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduation from an accredited college or University with a BA/BS degree in Health Education, Public Health, Nursing, Education, Nutrition, or other related fields, or at least 5 years of relevant health education experience
  • Prior experience and training in one or more areas of health education
  • Experience in patient counseling, educating small and large groups, and developing curricula and materials
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients or employees
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic with whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions
  • Background check from DSHS and Washington State Patrol
  • Washington driver’s license and current auto insurance coverage
  • No history or evidence of alcohol or other drug misuse for three years immediately prior to employment, and no misuse while employed
  • Must complete pre-hire and annual TB screening
  • Annual influenza vaccine and COVID vaccine proof required, unless an approved medical or religious exemption applies
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification or completion within 90 days of hire
  • Demonstrated knowledge of age-appropriate patient care and growth and development across the lifespan
  • Ability to identify and categorize age-specific patient needs
  • Ability to chart notes in Electronic Health Records (EHR)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
