About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Enroll, terminate, orient, and deliver benefits to WIC participants
- Maintain complete and up-to-date WIC charts, client files, records, and statistical program documentation
- Perform preliminary participant risk assessments and basic nutrition education
- Interview clients and review histories, anthropometric and laboratory data, and eating habits
- Conduct weighing, measuring, hematocrit and hemoglobin screening, growth-grid plotting, and dietary evaluations
- Determine WIC eligibility and nutrition risk factors
- Refer clients to health and community services and facilitate urgent Dietitian appointments
- Provide individual and group nutrition education
- Schedule client appointments and provide program orientation
- Determine food packages, explain WIC food nutrient content, identify vendors, and issue food benefits
- Maintain patient rights and confidentiality and document complaints and infractions
- Support clerical and statistical program work
- Establish professional relationships with WIC staff and Sea Mar personnel
- Participate in meetings, continuing education, breastfeeding promotion, and community nutrition education
- Travel as needed and perform other assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School or GED diploma
- One year previous experience as WIC Clerk and/or in WIC program desired
- Interest and experience in basic nutrition and childhood development desirable
- Completion of the Minimum Paraprofessional Competencies defined by Washington State WIC Program
- Must receive a background check from the Washington State Patrol
- Must have and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification bi-annually and TB test annually
- Must obtain BLS CPR within 90 days of hire and maintain current certification throughout employment
- Pre-hire and annual employee health screening required
- Annual influenza vaccine required, subject to approved medical or religious exemption
- Ability to travel in Western Washington
- Ability to lift 35 pounds above 4 feet without assistance
- Ability to sit at a computer terminal or desk for extended periods
- Ability to work with diverse populations and socioeconomic backgrounds
- English/Spanish bilingual and bicultural preferred
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic and understand written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions
