About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the production of experience studies with a high level of technical expertise and generate value-added recommendations
- Lead projects aimed at improving the efficiency, accuracy, and overall performance of the actuarial function, from problem identification through solution implementation
- Present findings and recommendations to the Appointed Actuary and the Head of Actuarial
- Research innovative solutions to improve operational efficiency, analytical accuracy, and understanding of business performance
- Manage follow-ups related to modeling issues, approximations, and their resolution
- Collaborate with analysts and the Director of Actuarial Valuation to ensure deliverables are completed according to established timelines
- Analyze historical experience, market trends, and financial results to develop assumptions for actuarial valuation, capital management, and financial reporting
- Lead strategic projects related to model accuracy, operational efficiency, and business analysis
Requirements
What you’ll need- Associate of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (ACIA) or equivalent actuarial designation, with progression toward Fellowship (FCIA)
- Minimum of 4 years of actuarial experience in the insurance industry, including experience in actuarial valuation, modeling, financial reporting, or financial analysis
- Strong modeling expertise with GGY AXIS and demonstrated experience resolving complex modeling issues
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or coaching actuarial professionals
- Experience with life, critical illness, and disability insurance products
- Demonstrated experience completing experience studies end to end, including data analysis, assumption development, and recommendation formulation
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to translate technical findings into business recommendations
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to influence both technical and non-technical audiences
- Proficiency in Excel, R, and databases
- Strong autonomy, sense of accountability, and continuous commitment to process improvement
- Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) or equivalent designation (asset)
- Knowledge of IFRS 17 standards and LICAT/TSAV capital requirements (asset)
- Knowledge of U.S. GAAP accounting standards (asset)
- Experience leading change initiatives and engaging multidisciplinary teams (asset)
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with competing priorities and tight deadlines (asset)
