About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Investigate fire and explosion incidents across domestic, commercial and industrial settings, including complex and high-value losses
- Determine the origin, cause and development of fires through systematic scene examination, evidence collection, witness interviews and scientific analysis
- Attend fire scenes throughout the UK
- Document findings and examine electrical and mechanical appliances
- Recover evidence and assist in developing robust technical conclusions
- Produce technical reports and analytical assessments
- Work closely with senior investigators, insurers, loss adjusters, solicitors and other stakeholders
- Provide impartial, evidence-based conclusions supporting insurance and legal claims processes
- Present technical findings to non-technical audiences
Requirements
What you’ll need- Degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline, such as Fire Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Forensic Science, or equivalent industry experience
- Demonstrable experience investigating the origin and cause of fire and explosion incidents
- Sound understanding of fire dynamics, fire development, fire scene examination and evidence preservation techniques
- Ability to analyse complex technical information and develop evidence-based conclusions
- Experience producing clear, detailed and impartial technical reports suitable for clients, insurers and legal proceedings
- Ability to present technical findings confidently and objectively to non-technical audiences
- Familiarity with relevant legislation, standards and guidance associated with fire investigation and fire safety
- Full UK driving license is essential
- Professional memberships and industry-specific fire investigation qualifications are desirable
- Experience acting as an expert witness or providing expert opinion is advantageous
- Insurance sector experience is beneficial but not essential; training will be provided
