About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Investigate claims against insurance or other companies involving personal, casualty, or property loss or damage
- Handle complex local losses independently up to designated authority
- Assist with larger losses, including accounting-based losses such as business interruption and stock
- Examine claim forms and records to determine insurance coverage
- Interview, telephone, or correspond with claimants and witnesses
- Consult police and hospital records and inspect property damage to determine company liability
- Estimate repair, replacement, or compensation costs
- Prepare findings reports and negotiate settlements with claimants
- Recommend litigation by the legal department when settlement cannot be negotiated
- Attend litigation hearings
- Revise case reserves in assigned claims files to cover probable costs
- Assist in preparing loss experience reports and calculate adequate future rates
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Support the organization's quality programs
- Travel as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred
- Must have earned the IIA-AIC designation
- Actively pursuing another professional insurance designation
- Appropriate state adjuster license is required
- Five (5) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Strong oral and written communication, including presentation skills
- PC literate, including Microsoft Office products
- Demonstrated commitment to timely reporting
- Strong customer service skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Good time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment
- Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies
- Must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time
- Must be able to kneel, squat or bend
- Must be able to work outdoors in hot and/or cold weather conditions
- Ability to climb, crawl, stoop, kneel, and reach/work overhead
- Able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds
- Able to push/pull up to 100 pounds
- Able to drive up to 4 hours per day
- Must have continual use of manual dexterity
