About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Handle complex or high exposure claim issues
  • Advise and lead Nurse Consultant - PL colleagues
  • Provide medical knowledge of the health care system and health care issues
  • Independently investigate, analyze, and evaluate medical malpractice claims for self-insured and commercially insured clients
  • Receive requests for investigation, review cases, develop action plans, and investigate accordingly
  • Collect data from the company and clients to document and communicate results
  • Prepare reports summarizing medical records and interviews
  • Outline issues related to summary reports and provide analysis and recommendations for further claims handling
  • Interview practitioners involved in medical malpractice claims at hospital facilities weekly as needed
  • Participate in follow-up review and investigation as directed
  • Assist with discovery requests as needed
  • Provide clients with information needed to determine liability issues and exposure
  • Assist in identifying risk management issues to decrease liability exposure and associated legal costs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • RN license required
  • Five (5) years related clinical nursing experience required
  • Two (2) years nurse consultant experience required
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred
  • LNC (Legal Nurse Consultant) certification or training preferred
  • General or Professional Liability investigation related experience preferred
  • Technical claims knowledge of medical malpractice claims procedures and practices
  • Excellent oral and written communication, including presentation skills
  • PC literacy, including Microsoft Office products
  • Analytical and interpretive skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies
