About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform structural analysis and design of transportation structures, including bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and ancillary structures
  • Prepare engineering reports, existing structure assessments, feasibility studies, and structure selection reports
  • Perform bridge and culvert inspections and load ratings
  • Prepare structural calculations and load rating packages using Bentley OpenBridge, RISA, L-Pile, AASHTOWare BrR, BRASS, and similar programs
  • Apply AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and applicable state and agency design manuals
  • Prepare structural construction specifications
  • Develop quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimates for structural elements
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor submittals during construction
  • Collaborate with structural engineers, technicians, and other disciplines on multidisciplinary transportation projects
  • Coordinate and communicate with clients, agencies, contractors, and other project stakeholders
  • Visit project, construction, and precast concrete sites, primarily within Colorado and Arizona
  • Support continued technical development and progression toward project management responsibility

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering
  • Strong understanding of structural engineering fundamentals and design practices
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Colorado and/or Arizona PE licensure preferred; licensure in other states is a plus
  • Updated NCEES record within 6 months of hire
  • Knowledge of structural steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed concrete design
  • Experience with Bentley OpenBridge, RISA, and L-Pile or similar structural analysis and design software
  • Familiarity with AASHTO bridge design requirements and CDOT and/or ADOT design criteria
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment
  • ACI and PCI concrete testing certification preferred, or ability to become certified within 12 months of hire
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to travel as needed; occasional overnight travel may be required
  • Minimum of 5 years of structural analysis and design experience preferred
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future
  • Ability to perform field work requiring lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
