About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Take product ideas from problem definition through design, implementation, rollout, and iteration
- Develop experiments that may grow into standalone products
- Work directly with users and internal stakeholders to identify problems and determine what to build
- Make pragmatic scope and architecture decisions
- Build backend services, APIs, infrastructure-facing components, and focused frontend experiences
- Reuse proven Semaphore systems before introducing new infrastructure
- Use AI coding agents to explore, build, test, and ship efficiently
- Maintain correctness, security, clarity, reliability, and product quality
- Own production outcomes, including reliability, observability, supportability, and compliance requirements
- Communicate decisions, progress, and risks clearly
- Work closely with engineering, product, infrastructure, and company leadership
- Drive ambiguous products or features to strong outcomes
Requirements
What you’ll need- Track record of independently shipping meaningful software products or major product capabilities
- Strong product judgment and ability to identify essential user problems, reduce scope, and assess product readiness
- Strong engineering judgment across system design, implementation, reliability, and long-term maintainability
- Strong backend and systems fundamentals, including APIs, asynchronous processing, service boundaries, state and lifecycle management, retries, idempotency, and failure recovery
- Comfort with infrastructure concepts including virtual machines, storage, networking, authentication, secrets, containers, and cloud platforms
- Ability to navigate a polyglot environment including Go, Elixir, Ruby, React, and related technologies; expertise in every language is not required
- Frontend capability to build or extend focused product user experiences independently
- Fluency with modern AI-assisted development, including decomposing work for agents, supplying context, reviewing generated changes, and building verification workflows
- Initiative and persistence with incomplete information; ability to surface risks early and involve others when useful
- Strong written and spoken English
- Experience working independently in a remote, asynchronous team
- Experience with developer tools, CI/CD systems, cloud platforms, or infrastructure products is nice to have
- Hands-on experience with distributed systems and event-driven architectures is nice to have
- Experience evolving mature codebases while introducing new products or architectures is nice to have
- Experience in a lean environment where senior engineers participate in product discovery and customer conversations is nice to have
