About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement the on-ship co-curricular program
  • Respond to student concerns and critical incidents
  • Encourage students’ intellectual growth and personal development
  • Support the general welfare of all students, particularly those assigned to the Coordinator’s residential area
  • Improve student quality of life through programming, community development, policy enforcement, and appropriate student relationships
  • Serve as a rotating first responder for on-call situations, remaining on the ship while on call, sometimes for 24 hours straight
  • Manage an assigned student assistant
  • Attend in-person Student Life Team Orientation in Fort Collins, Colorado before the voyage
  • Attend approximately 8–10 pre-voyage training calls and scheduled HR, orientation, and training calls
  • Complete an assigned collateral responsibility such as Exploration, Well-Being and Recreation, Inclusion and Belonging, Reflection, Student Activities, or Organizations and Clubs
  • Coordinate student programming, events, organizations, clubs, recreation, reflection, inclusion, and related educational initiatives depending on collateral assignment
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff on student learning, co-curricular programming, and global education activities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Available for a full semester assignment
  • Valid U.S. work authorization
  • Valid passport and required visas, or ability to obtain them
  • Required vaccinations as directed by a health care provider or required by the program
  • Passports valid for 6 months post voyage
  • Successfully pass a background check
  • Support the mission and values of ISE, including its commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Knowledge of and ability to support culturally diverse communities
  • 3+ years of full-time professional experience in student affairs working with undergraduate students in a college or university setting
  • Master’s degree in higher education and student affairs administration, or a related field
  • Experience supporting student learning and academic success
  • Experience creating environments where students feel free to ask questions and obtain assistance
  • Flexibility and a mindset of getting tasks completed quickly
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to relate effectively with program constituents
  • Detail-oriented, with ability to balance multiple priorities in a complex and dynamic environment
  • Ability to exercise good judgment on a range of issues
  • Experience responding to emergency or crisis situations
  • Ability to perform essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Extended walking and standing, sometimes on uneven surfaces
  • Ability to lift, carry, bend, or move objects up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to climb stairs to embark and disembark the ship, in port terminals, and in-country
  • Computer work proficiency
