About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Investigate and settle total loss, loss-of-use, towing, and storage claims
- Evaluate basic to moderately complex claims involving private passenger auto, commercial auto, tractor trailers, heavy equipment, watercraft, trailers, motorcycles, and other specialty vehicles
- Review repair estimates, prior damage estimates, photos, vehicle conditioning, and actual value to make repair or total loss decisions
- Conduct and review vehicle valuations through company-approved vendors
- Research and determine appropriate cash values for auto and specialty vehicles
- Complete and submit state-specific forms, taxes, and fees
- Negotiate settlements with claimants and/or attorneys within prescribed authority limits
- Explain procedures and denials when coverage does not exist
- Refer claims exceeding authorization limits to management with settlement recommendations
- Document decisions, correspondence, reports, and discussions throughout claim handling
- Coordinate rental vehicles and manage claim expenses, including advance changes, salvage, rental, and outside vendor expenses
- Control expenses while ensuring services are properly covered for claimants
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
- Hands-on experience with auto repair preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills strongly preferred
- Solid knowledge and understanding of each phase of the claim handling process, or other equivalent knowledge highly beneficial
- Demonstrated experience handling moderately complex claims, or other equivalent experience strongly preferred
- Obtain and maintain state adjuster and appraiser licensing as required
