About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Represent Sentry insureds and Sentry in defending claims and direct policy actions
  • Ensure no conflict of interest exists between policyholders and Sentry
  • Independently manage minimally to substantially complex caseloads from pleadings through trial
  • Oversee all phases of litigation, including motion practice, depositions, expert discovery, and trial preparation
  • Communicate and report to policyholders and claims associates on litigation progress, strategy, and matter evolution
  • Assist claims associates with mediation, arbitration, settlement, friendly suit, or court-approved resolution

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Juris Doctor Degree
  • 7+ years of related work experience
  • Experience as a licensed attorney in at least one state
  • Experience with insurance defense litigation
  • Experience taking/defending depositions
  • Experience with court appearances
  • Experience handling dispositive motions
  • Experience retaining expert witnesses
  • Trial experience as first chair or solo trial counsel
  • Valid license to practice law, in good standing, in California
  • Ability to deal with people where conflict and controversy exist
  • Ability to self-manage and operate with a full caseload and minimal daily oversight
