About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide first-level technical support for customer service and teleport operations, installation, and maintenance at the South Mountain, Somis Teleport
- Monitor, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain satellite communications equipment at the Somis teleport
- Remotely monitor and troubleshoot systems at the Haleiwa, Hawaii teleport
- Maintain ground operations service throughput for aerial vehicles, cruise line services, in-flight internet, and TT&C systems
- Participate in the design, installation, and operation of occasional missions
- Fabricate, install, maintain, and repair RF equipment used in satellite downlink and uplink operations
- Troubleshoot components and systems including HPAs, fiber-optic systems, upconverters, downconverters, RF switch assemblies, ACUs, LNAs, and LNBs
- Maintain and repair transmit/receive and receive-only satellite antenna systems
- Perform system-level and bench-level electronics troubleshooting
- Perform on-site installation, preventative maintenance, and routine repair or replacement of electronic and electromechanical equipment
- Maintain, monitor, and configure High Throughput Satellite equipment
- Troubleshoot equipment remotely and provide instructions via email, phone, and remote monitoring and control equipment
- Build, repair, calibrate, and modify electrical components, circuitry, controls, and machinery
- Install, calibrate, and maintain integrated computer/communications systems, consoles, simulators, and data acquisition, test, and measurement equipment
- Create and maintain RF drawings and block diagrams
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in RF Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field experience; education can be substituted for experience
- Ability to work rotating day, evening, and night shifts, weekends, holidays, and on call
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces
- Experience with SATCOM, broadband, telecommunications, digital video, RF carrier multiplex paths, and TCP/IP
- Ability to read RF and electrical drawings
- Ground system experience in satellite acquisition, including antenna control, peak optimization procedures, and RF path verification
- Preferred: experience working as a satellite communication technician
- Preferred: experience working at a teleport or earth station
- Preferred: ability to solder small components, wires, and cable connectors
- Certain positions may require U.S. Citizenship, lawful permanent resident status, protected-individual status, or eligibility to obtain required U.S. government authorizations under ITAR/EAR
