About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide direct clinical support to medical providers, clinic staff, and patients
  • Review patient charts, identify care gaps, and prepare relevant data for appointments
  • Update Epic EHR records with outside provider notes, lab results, vaccine records, and other documentation
  • Prepare exam rooms, lab rooms, medical equipment, supplies, and vaccine refrigerators
  • Room patients for in-person and virtual appointments
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist healthcare providers during examinations and procedures
  • Perform supervised procedures within scope of practice, including wound cleaning and dressing
  • Administer and assist with vaccinations
  • Collect specimens and perform point-of-care laboratory tests
  • Coordinate labs, referrals, imaging, prior authorizations, specialist visits, and follow-up appointments
  • Assist patients with paperwork, scheduling, consent forms, and home visits
  • Provide patient communication, including screening calls, medication refill questions, reminders, follow-up calls, and lab/imaging results
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and organized patient medical records
  • Stock and maintain exam rooms, lab, medication, and supply rooms
  • Sterilize and process instruments and maintain the autoclave
  • Participate in quality improvement or outreach committees
  • Assist with training new Medical Assistants
  • Perform additional Level 2/3 duties as applicable, including unsupervised procedures, supply oversight, abnormal-results notification, complex call screening, and independent nursing visits

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Current certification as a Nationally Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) preferred but not required
  • Previous family practice experience preferred
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to work as a member of a team
  • Possess current CPR/BLS certification or obtain within 30 days of hire
  • Critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong computer skills, including electronic healthcare records
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and equipment
  • Ability to interact positively with patients, visitors, and staff
  • Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and follow HIPAA regulations
  • Ability to work independently and use good judgment in work prioritization
  • Ability to complete difficult/complex tasks
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to work onsite in Seward, Alaska
