About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Code diagnoses and applicable procedures for Emergency Department, Infusions Wound Care Clinic, and Outpatient Ancillary encounters using HCPCS/CPT and/or ICD-10-CM
  • Maintain a safe, clean working environment, including unit-based safety and infection control requirements
  • Code encounters according to Hospital-Based and quality monitoring criteria
  • Observe and report unusual documentation patterns requiring additional research for coding completion
  • Maintain ongoing education for current professional certification
  • Review and comprehend current coding and compliance information
  • Adhere to AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding
  • Perform other related duties as requested by Management

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Six (6) months Emergency Department coding experience utilizing ICD-10-CM codes and CPT required; one year of outpatient or inpatient coding experience utilizing ICD-10-CM and CPT codes may be considered in lieu of six months Emergency Department coding experience
  • Internal transfers: one year Coder 1 experience at Tri-City Medical Center may be considered in lieu of six months Emergency Department coding experience
  • One of the following current credentials required: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
  • Successful completion of coding skills assessment with a score of at least 70% required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, compliance and reimbursement guidelines required
  • Intermediate computer skills required
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical skills
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility in response to unexpected change in work volume and work schedule
  • Excellent human relations’ skills including listening, conflict resolution, and team building
  • Wound Care Clinic encounters and Infusion Center coding experience preferred
