About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build, scale, and maintain mission-critical backend systems powering Shipt’s retailer management ecosystem
- Own complex technical tasks and features, ensuring core applications are production-ready, scalable, resilient, and performant across multi-region environments
- Drive hands-on development of complex features, multi-region services, and core Go microservices
- Design high-performance, low-latency microservices and event pipelines
- Design relational data models, write SQL migrations, optimize queries, and implement Redis caching strategies
- Write idiomatic, testable, readable Go code and conduct thorough code reviews
- Document architecture and design decisions with high-level and low-level system diagrams
- Use automated code scanning tools to identify vulnerabilities and advocate remediation
- Contribute to shared tooling, internal libraries, and microservice templates
- Ensure production readiness, observability, reliability, and rapid incident recovery
- Improve metrics, logging, tracing dashboards, SLIs/SLOs, and alerting
- Lead incident recovery and root-cause resolution
- Contribute to the technical roadmap and manage multi-sprint feature deliveries
- Mentor Engineers, Associate Engineers, and Interns
- Serve as a technical contact for cross-product partners and product managers
Requirements
What you’ll need- 4+ years of professional software development experience building and maintaining production-grade distributed systems
- Demonstrated expertise writing production backend services in Go (Golang)
- Strong experience with Apache Kafka, Postgres, Redis, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Kubernetes
- Deep understanding of relational database schema design, SQL query performance optimization in Postgres, and caching strategies in Redis
- Strong proficiency in microservices architecture, RESTful API design, SOLID design principles, asynchronous event-driven messaging, and multi-region service resilience
- Strong expertise in automated unit, integration, and regression testing frameworks
- Experience working in fast-paced Agile environments
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
