About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare patients for treatments or evaluations, assisting with undressing and treatment aids
  • Transfer, move, and ambulate patients using wheelchairs or stretchers
  • Assist therapists with sensory stimulation, training programs, gait training, exercise, weight training, and hydrotherapy
  • Conduct therapeutic regimens reinforcing self-care activities such as feeding, dressing, bathing, and memory training
  • Observe patients and immediately report reactions or changes in condition to the supervising nurse or therapist
  • Fabricate equipment adaptations for patients
  • Maintain adaptive equipment inventory and notify personnel of deficiencies
  • Keep clinic areas organized and perform infection control procedures, including disinfecting equipment
  • Maintain food inventory, including purchasing, dating, and rotating supplies
  • Provide clerical support, including reception, file maintenance, document distribution, library maintenance, and medical-record retrieval
  • Clean and maintain rental wheelchairs
  • Deliver and store supplies and equipment from Central Supply
  • Perform other assigned duties
  • Report directly to the assigned Clinical Manager

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High school diploma or equivalent education
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a physical therapy aide, occupational therapy aide, or related health care experience
  • Knowledge of patient care methods, procedures and techniques
  • Understanding of the growth and development of adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
  • Effective verbal, non-verbal and written communication
  • Ability to transfer and position patients, including lifting up to 35 lbs.
  • Critical thinking and sound judgment to monitor and respond to patient needs or changes in condition
  • Ability to adapt to changing work demands and work environment
  • Occasional exposure to infectious diseases when working with patients
