About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the creative development and delivery of Sierra Club’s social media identity, including voice, visual style, creative content, and platform strategies
  • Coach and advise organizational leaders and stakeholders on social strategy
  • Track industry trends, breakthrough creative campaigns, pop culture, and current events to create timely content
  • Balance multiple issues and shifting priorities while maintaining a unified organizational voice
  • Develop visual and story-based content across social media platforms
  • Drive content strategies that foster engagement and community growth
  • Develop and manage a team of strategists, creatives, and content developers
  • Foster innovation, collaboration, accountability, professional development, and project management opportunities
  • Set and achieve programmatic goals integrating marketing, fundraising, storytelling, list growth, crisis response, influencer engagement, and organizing tactics
  • Develop data-informed strategies and track and report audience, content, and platform engagement insights
  • Produce monthly and quarterly social media reporting
  • Develop and support social media governance structures, processes, intake, scheduling, and review procedures
  • Train internal staff, chapters, and volunteers on social media best practices and brand standards
  • Manage contracts and projects with external vendors
  • Work occasional weeknight and weekend hours due to the 24-hour news cycle

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Proven track record of managing people, projects, and social media platforms
  • Experience doing top-to-bottom work required of a Social Media team
  • Demonstrated ability to direct a team to successful outcomes and perform hands-on work as needed
  • Innovative, story-based social media and change-making strategies
  • Technical skills and creative tool proficiencies
  • Proven history of developing social media processes and infrastructure
  • Experience developing and executing qualitative and quantitative data-informed strategies
  • Experience navigating competing priorities with internal and external stakeholders
  • Significant management experience
  • Ability to communicate, coach, and support teams
  • Experience creating governance structures for social programming and training content creators on best practices and brand standards
  • Deep expertise with Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, and Substack
  • Robust knowledge of social media scheduling, monitoring, analytics, and reporting software
  • Effective equity analysis and practice
  • Sophisticated understanding of group dynamics and their impact on supervisory relationships, organizational culture, partnerships, campaigns, and coalition work
  • Experience in the environmental movement or social justice advocacy space (strongest candidates)
  • Influencer cultivation and partnership experience (strongest candidates)
  • Existing influencer partnerships (strongest candidates)
  • Strong organization, prioritization, timeliness, and attention to detail
