About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop and support the company’s insurance strategy and portfolio, including property, casualty, executive liability, cyber, and specialized aerospace coverages
  • Support insurance program budgeting, premium allocation, forecasting, invoice reconciliation, and cost reporting
  • Support renewals, negotiate policy terms and pricing, evaluate coverage options, and maintain carrier relationships
  • Assess and implement alternative risk financing strategies, including self-insurance or captive options
  • Manage systems and processes for identifying, tracking, and quantifying insurable risks across business units, programs, and facilities
  • Analyze loss trends, actuarial reports, and exposure data for strategic decision-making
  • Develop and maintain departmental work processes, procedures, and controls
  • Support claims processes and coordinate with internal and external partners
  • Review and negotiate insurance and indemnification language in customer, supplier, and government contracts
  • Support compliance with insurance regulations, corporate governance requirements, contractual obligations, and Aerospace & Defense industry requirements
  • Partner with legal, procurement, finance, operations, and program teams on risk transfer strategies
  • Oversee team outputs, vendor engagement, and cross-functional risk mitigation initiatives
  • Prepare executive reports and dashboards on program performance, emerging risks, insurance costs, and recommended actions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field
  • 11+ years of relevant experience, including 4+ years of management experience
  • Relevant experience may substitute for the required educational qualifications; without a degree, 15 years of related experience is required
  • Higher level relevant degree may substitute for experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of risk management processes, including coverage placement, contract review, insurance compliance, claims management, and insurance recovery
  • Ability to independently and collaboratively drive strategy addressing complex risks and stakeholder concerns
  • Ability to navigate change and uncertainty and make defensible decisions in ambiguous situations
  • Prior experience leading, developing, and mentoring an insurance and risk management team
  • Ability to interact with individuals at all organizational levels
  • Ability to travel as needed, typically less than 10%
  • Preferred certifications include CRM, ARM, CPCU, or RIMS-CRMP
  • Knowledge of DoD and government policies, standards, and procedures preferred
  • Aerospace and Defense, U.S. Department of Defense, NASA/civil or commercial space, or U.S. Military background preferred
  • Proficiency using a computer for extended periods
  • Hand/finger dexterity for typing and data entry
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship required
