About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Implement and monitor company environmental safety programs and policies
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations
- Maintain safety equipment inventory and ensure equipment is in proper working condition
- Perform periodic safety inspections to identify and mitigate potential hazards
- Monitor hazardous waste removal vendors
- Assist in consolidating chemical, radioactive, and/or medical hazardous wastes
- Monitor environmental compliance and maintain liaison with appropriate regulatory agencies
- Develop and deliver EHS training programs to employees
- Conduct risk assessments and create mitigation strategies
- Investigate incidents and near-misses and implement corrective actions
- Prepare and submit required environmental reports and documentation
- Stay current with EHS regulations and industry best practices
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree, or Master's degree plus 3 years of experience
- Typically 5+ years of related experience in environmental health and safety
- Knowledge of EHS management systems such as ISO45001, ISO14001, or similar
- Expertise in Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Permit-Required Confined Spaces (PRCS), fall protection/prevention, SPCC, air permitting, and related EHS topics
- Prior experience with RCRA, CERCLA, EPA, hazardous wastes, and air emissions
- Advanced degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Safety Management, or a related field (preferred)
- Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, ASP, or similar (preferred)
- Experience with hazardous waste management and emergency response
- Proficiency in EHS software and tools
- Understanding of industrial hygiene principles and practices
- Experience with hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies
- Familiarity with safety data sheets (SDS) and chemical management
- Knowledge of incident investigation techniques and root cause analysis
- Ability to develop and deliver EHS training programs
- Experience with environmental compliance reporting and documentation
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and EHS-specific software
