About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide alignment, connection, and direction to the technical team throughout the product development lifecycle
  • Champion the integrated-system viewpoint during system development
  • Decompose stakeholder requirements top-down and perform bottom-up system validation and verification
  • Shepherd the team through technical development milestones
  • Track performance measures and identify technical risks
  • Lead systems engineering scope and develop systems thinking in others
  • Oversee physical integration, assembly, and testing of spaceflight hardware
  • Ensure structural, thermal, mechanism, and propulsion subsystems meet system-level requirements and survive harsh environments
  • Drive proactive mechanical architecture decisions across the program
  • Lead cohesive mechanical system and subsystem design
  • Advise the SV Lead and Chief Engineer on mechanical system-level impacts and risks
  • Maintain Mechanical Interface Control Documents between payloads, subsystems, and the bus
  • Identify and resolve physical, envelope, and mating conflicts
  • Track and report system-level mass, center of gravity, and moments of inertia
  • Lead mechanical test definition and planning
  • Support AI&T for mechanical nonconformances and ensure their closure
  • Design mechanical systems from concept through production and flight test
  • Support integration, manufacturing, ground test, and flight operations
  • Improve engineering workflows, design standards, and digital engineering capabilities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree, or Master's degree plus 8 years of experience
  • Typically 10+ years of related experience, or Master's degree plus 8 years of experience
  • Expertise in Systems Engineering principles and practices, including the systems development lifecycle
  • Experience with requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation
  • Experience developing systems architecture and performing systems integration, verification, and validation activities
  • Ability to work and communicate with technical and specialty subject matter expert engineers
  • Current/active Secret U.S. Security Clearance required
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • Preferred: Experience with DOORS, CAMEO EA, Rhapsody, Matlab, and SysML
  • Preferred: Understanding of spacecraft systems, project management methodologies, risk management, technical performance tracking, configuration management, and technical baselines
  • Preferred: Experience leading projects and mentoring engineers
  • Preferred: Experience or certification in INCOSE standards
  • Preferred: Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Preferred: Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
