About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Drive proactive software architecture decisions across the program
  • Lead the engineering team focused on cohesive software design
  • Advise the SV Lead and Chief Engineer on software-related system impacts and risks
  • Manage software interfaces
  • Support Hardware-in-the-Loop and FlatSat environments for testing flight software
  • Validate driver-to-hardware communication and software interfaces with sensors, actuators, and payloads
  • Manage deployment, configuration, and flashing of software builds onto engineering models and flight computers
  • Orchestrate end-to-end Day-in-the-Life mission simulations
  • Support hardware and data fault injection to validate autonomous fault detection, isolation, and recovery
  • Lead software test definition and planning
  • Provide first-level support to AI&T for software defects
  • Ensure software defects are closed
  • Design mechanical systems and aircraft structures from concept through production and flight test
  • Support integration, manufacturing, ground test, and flight operations
  • Improve engineering workflows, design standards, and digital engineering capabilities

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree, or Master's degree plus 3 years of experience
  • Typically 5+ years of related experience, or Master's degree plus 3 years of experience
  • Emerging expertise in Systems Engineering principles and practices, including the systems development lifecycle
  • Knowledge of requirements management, functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation
  • Knowledge of systems architecture, systems integration, and Verification and Validation (V&V) principles
  • Ability to work and communicate with technical and specialty subject matter expert engineers
  • Active Secret U.S. Security Clearance required
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Proficiency in Python/Ruby and comfort navigating C/C++
  • Experience with RTOS such as FreeRTOS, RTEMS, or VxWorks, or embedded Linux
  • Understanding of UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, and SpaceWire protocols
  • Familiarity with Git-based CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity with satellite command and telemetry frameworks such as NASA’s cFS, F’ (F Prime), COSMOS, or OpenMCT
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • Preferred: Experience with DOORS, CAMEO EA, Rhapsody, Matlab, and SysML
  • Preferred: Understanding of spacecraft systems, project management, risk management, technical performance tracking, configuration management, INCOSE standards, and mentoring
