About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Fulfill the requirement of technical consultant and technical supervisor per CLIA
- Provide education and training for medical groups and laboratory staff
- Develop laboratory testing procedures and standardized practices
- Perform and teach quality control and calibration on all instruments
- Establish laboratory policies and protocols
- Train new and existing staff on laboratory sample preparation and processing, POC testing, phlebotomy, safety, environmental, and infection control practices
- Maintain records and reports on results according to state and federal guidelines
- Assure regulatory compliance for medical group laboratories
- Review and approve test validation for new methods and reagents
- Review and approve changes to reference ranges and reporting formats
- Consult and guide laboratory staff
- Ensure staff training and complete annual competency assessments
- Establish, maintain, and review laboratory quality control and quality programs
- Review quality control and maintenance records monthly
- Manage proficiency testing and alternate assessment programs
- Review proficiency testing results, sign attestations, and initiate corrective actions
- Prepare, review, and sign laboratory policies and procedures
- Advise on equipment and track CLIA licenses
- Serve as liaison between regulatory/proficiency testing agencies and the laboratory
- Provide guidance on everyday issues such as failed quality control
- Participate in professional and educational development activities
- Facilitate team meetings and education opportunities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree required
- Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist required
- Certificate/License: Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist required
- Five years of health care laboratory experience or other related experience
- Knowledge of organizational policies, procedures and systems
- Knowledge of office management techniques and practices
- Knowledge of computer systems, EMR, and applications
- Knowledge of research methods and procedures sufficient to compile data and prepare reports
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including appropriate use of grammar, spelling and punctuation
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public
- Ability to effectively communicate and present information
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply policies and procedures
- Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions
- Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities
- Ability to multitask, prioritize appropriately, manage time, and remain organized
- Computer skills and knowledge of online resources necessary
