About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the design, implementation, and scaling of analytics infrastructure
- Form the foundation of a cohesive analytics ecosystem
- Empower analytics engineers and data scientists to independently create metrics using DataOps best practices
- Interface with the application database team to improve the overall cloud ecosystem
- Enable scalable sharing of large volumes of data with clients
- Ingest data from Postgres, Google Cloud Storage, Jira, web analytics platforms, and other sources into BigQuery
- Use dbt to transform raw data into user-friendly data marts for AI and BI tools
- Guide data ingestion from and delivery of data to clients
- Establish scalable and traceable inbound feeds and large outbound data delivery
- Monitor and control data warehousing costs
- Improve synergies between application databases and the data warehouse
- Establish a robust dbt data testing framework
- Produce metric definitions and documentation
- Champion DataOps practices across teams
- Help ensure appropriate account permissions across the data consumption layer
- Implement controls supporting GDPR, PII, SOC 2, and other regulatory compliance
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of experience with SQL, BigQuery, Terraform, Apache Beam, Airflow, and GCP
- Hands-on expertise with dbt and event-driven analytics highly desirable
- Proven experience implementing and owning data warehouses end-to-end
- Track record of data modeling for analytical use cases
- Background empowering peers through DataOps best practices
- Strong emphasis on data security and governance
- Deep understanding of transactional versus analytical databases
- Excellent communication skills across cross-functional teams
- Autonomous and independent, with strong ownership and accountability
- Ability to champion best practices and ensure consistent adoption
- Strong foundation in SQL and Python
- Demonstrable experience implementing data warehouses
- Mindset for cloud systems design
- Must currently reside locally in the San Francisco Bay Area
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or related field highly recommended, not required
