About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the evolution of SimplePractice’s data stack, from pipelines to platform
  • Build infrastructure powering product intelligence, financial reporting, self-serve analytics, and AI evaluation loops
  • Partner with Product, Analytics, Engineering, ML, and DevOps teams to build scalable systems from backend databases, event streams, and marketing platforms
  • Lead technical vision and architecture across short-term and long-term horizons
  • Establish standardized company-wide metrics with Analytics
  • Support financial reporting, product analytics, operational metrics, customer-facing dashboards, self-serve analytics, and next-best-action product features
  • Manage the complete data stack from ingestion through data consumption
  • Build tools that increase transparency in company-wide business outcomes
  • Deploy and maintain cloud-based data solutions, preferably using AWS
  • Help define data quality and data security frameworks and promote data engineering best practices

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BS/MS in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field
  • 7+ years in Data or Analytics Engineering
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills; comfortable in fast-paced, cross-functional environments
  • Enterprise architecture and enterprise data architecture, including data modeling and enterprise dimensional modeling
  • Expert in SQL and data modeling (relational, dimensional, semantic)
  • Proven experience in data warehouse design, implementation, and maintenance, especially Snowflake
  • Hands-on experience with DBT for modular, testable transformations
  • Experience with Airflow, Prefect, Airbyte, Fivetran, and Kafka
  • Familiarity with ELT, schema-on-read, DAGs, and performance optimization
  • Experience with AWS, including S3, RDS, and Redshift
  • Familiarity with Terraform, Docker, and containerized workflows (bonus)
  • Skill handling structured, semi-structured JSON, and columnar formats such as Parquet and ORC
  • Experience building and supporting semantic layers for self-serve analytics
  • Proficiency with BI tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Sisense
  • Proficiency in Python and Unix/Linux scripting
  • Comfort working with APIs, such as using curl
  • Bonus: AWS DevOps, Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker; Agile SCRUM/Kanban; Kafka streaming and AWS Kinesis
