About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Interface with attorneys, secretaries, clients and staff regarding billing matters
- Compile, analyze and process a high volume of attorney bills to clients monthly
- Review and edit pre-bills in response to attorney and secretary requests
- Apply retainer/on-account funds as directed by attorneys and Firm policy
- Process write-offs according to Firm guidelines and policy
- Execute complex bills, including multiple discounts by matter, split party billing and electronic bills
- Submit invoices electronically and assist with bill resolution
- Review billing supporting documentation for accuracy
- Research and verify descriptions, amounts, rates, client/matter data and client billing requirements; make appropriate corrections
- Create billing schedules and billing analyses
- Communicate with attorneys, secretaries and clients, providing accurate information and timely responses
- Distribute monthly partner reports
- Review and update comments for reports distributed to the Finance Committee and Partners
- Attend Partner and weekly management meetings to review unbilled matter comments, matter on-accounts and e-billing issues
- Work cooperatively with Collections staff and assist with accounts receivable issues to minimize credit balances
- Mentor and train new Billing Coordinators
- Assist with special projects and perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3 to 5 years of billing experience in a large law firm required
- Ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing
- Ability to use an accounting calculator
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly in Excel
- High level of proficiency with 3E or comparable billing program
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to organize, prioritize, plan and multi-task work activities and meet deadlines in a high pressure environment
- Flexibility to adapt to all work situations and work varied hours
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Simpson Thacher will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position
