About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Write and maintain C++ code for 5G NR upper-layer and core interface protocols, including PDCP, eGTP-U/C, XnAP, and NGAP
  • Learn and contribute to NTN-specific PDCP adaptations
  • Support eGTP-U tunnelling work for the N3 user plane
  • Contribute to XnAP interface procedures, including setup, UE context retrieval, handover preparation, and node configuration updates
  • Contribute to NGAP procedures over N2, including UE messaging, context management, paging, and handover signalling
  • Build test cases, simulation harnesses, and automation against 3GPP specifications
  • Support Core Network and MNO integration teams in validating NGAP procedures
  • Validate Xn/N2/N3 interfaces end-to-end across disaggregated vRAN and core network elements
  • Debug interface-layer issues using Wireshark, tcpdump, custom dissectors, GDB, and log analysis
  • Read 3GPP Rel-17/18 NR-NTN specifications and translate them into software requirements
  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical documentation
  • Use AI coding assistants across development, testing, and code review

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Wireless Communications, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a closely related field
  • Strong programming ability in C++ with non-trivial C++ experience and understanding of memory management, pointers/references, and the standard library
  • Working knowledge of networking and communications fundamentals, including the protocol stack model, IP, UDP/TCP, tunnelling, and packet-based signalling
  • Familiarity with 5G or LTE architecture, including RAN vs. core, control plane vs. user plane, and handovers
  • Comfortable working in Linux and with Git
  • Curiosity and persistence when debugging
  • Willingness to work from 3GPP specifications
  • Clear communication and appetite to learn
  • Prior professional experience is a plus, not required
  • Candidates must be within 50 km of Espoo, Finland or willing to relocate
